Training Event: New Year 2012

Posted by Jeremy Whittle on December 20th, 2011 @ 13:55

We are fast heading towards the close of 2011. The years seem to pass at an incredible pace these days!! Despite the fact that we are living in increasingly austere times, I belive that 2012 is looking promising for the development of resettlement practice, not least because the YJB will still be striving to direct change.

I've spent the later part of the year developing a training event which launches in the New Year. It's called 'Youth Resettlement and The Law'. You'll find details of it on our website's Events page. In summary, we will be offering a 1-day training event designed to provide practitioners with a comprehensive overview of Children Act legislation, the 1989 Act's Guidance and Regulations and how they affect young people remanded or sentenced to custody, particularly those with looked after status.

The training event will:

  • Provide an overview of the Children Act legislative framework affecting young people in custody
  • Summarise the legal status categories of young people in custody and their entitlements in law
  • Consider the amendments found within the Children and Young Persons Act 2008
  • Explain the background of 3 recent judicial reviews and their impact on practice
  • Explore the 1989 Children Act Regulations together with Statutory Guidance documents
  • Outline in detail Chapter 8 concerning Former Looked After Children in Custody

I look forward to meeting some of you next year when I'm out on the road.

Have a break if you can over the festive season.

Jeremy
