Resettlement UK Launch

Posted by Jeremy Whittle on April 19th, 2010 @ 15:04

Today is Monday the 19th April 2010 and I'm currently busy preparing for the rather 'quiet' launch of Resettlement UK on Wednesday 21st April at the NACRO Youth Justice Conference in Nottingham. Thankfully it's not an international event relying on people flying in from Europe! Rather ironically, my resettlement theme at the conference runs parallel with 'disasters' and how we approach them in regard to prevention, and then how we respond to them when disaster does actually strike!

I rate a 16 year old young person being in custody as pretty disastrous and will speak on the need for prevention measures to be stepped up post-custody in order that this individual's disaster isn't further compounded by our lack of action resulting in the young custody leaver experiencing further extended periods of confinement until their teenage years are finally over and they disappear into the adult estate!

I hope that in time, Resettlement UK will become a catalyst for change, assisting and supporting all those who work with young custody leavers in the youth justice system as we develop effective foundational resettlement resources.
